Great Wall Motor Company Limited, through its subsidiaries, manufactures and sells cars, pick-up trucks and sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) in China under branded names Haval and Great Wall Motor. The Company also researches and develops, and manufactures principal automotive parts and components for use in the assembly of pick-up trucks and SUVs.
Great Wall is one of China’s most successful car manufacturers, building total assets of £2.7 billion and an employee base of over 42,000 people worldwide. The company is also the only privately-owned Chinese automotive company to be listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
In 2011 Great Wall’s annual production capacity was expanded to 700,000 vehicles per annum with the opening of an all-new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at the coastal port of Tianjin, 60 miles from Beijing. This new plant is forecast to produce 400,000 examples of eight different Great Wall models – many of them destined for export markets.
Great Wall is making substantial investments in product development. For example, the company is building a brand new, £500 million R&D Technology Centre close to its headquarters in Baoding City. The facility will occupy an area of 250,000 square metres and accommodate 5,000 engineers.
Great Wall already exports its range of small and large family cars, SUVs and pick-up trucks to over 120 countries around the globe, including South Africa, Australia and Italy.
