Opel is a German automobile manufacturer headquartered in Rüsselsheim, Hesse, Germany and is one of Europe’s largest automakers. It was founded by Adam Opel in 1862. Opel and its British sister brand Vauxhall sell over one million vehicles annually. In 2014 this made it the third-largest passenger car brand in the European Union. Opel is conducting the largest model offensive in its history and will introduce 27 new vehicles and 17 new engines in 2018. Opel has entered new segments with vehicles such as the compact Mokka SUV, the small lifestyle ADAM and the elegant Cascada convertible. The Opel dealer network currently includes 326 authorized dealers with 346 affiliated branches, as well as 639 Opel Service Partners (OSP), of which 298 are also Authorized Opel Agents (AOV). History

Opel is one of the largest European car manufacturers and was founded by Adam Opel in Rüsselsheim, Germany, in 1862. The company started building automobiles in 1899. Opel has been part of the Groupe PSA since August 2017. Together with its British sister brand Vauxhall, the company is represented in more than 60 countries around the globe selling around one million vehicles in 2019. Opel is currently implementing its electrification strategy to secure sustainable success and ensure that the future mobility demands of customers are met. By 2024, all Opel models will offer an electric variant. This strategy is part of the company plan PACE! with which Opel will become sustainably profitable, global and electric.

Adam Opel AG

Opel Automobile GmbH, usually shortened to Opel, is a German automobile manufacturer which has been a subsidiary of Stellantis since 16 January 2021. It was owned by the American automaker General Motors from 1929 until 2017 and the PSA Group, a predecessor of Stellantis, from 2017 until 2021.

Stellantis N.V. is a multinational automotive manufacturing corporation formed in 2021 on the basis of a 50–50 cross-border merger between the Italian-American conglomerate Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the French PSA Group. The company is headquartered in Amsterdam.

Headquartered in Rüsselsheim, the company has 12 plants and four development and test centers in eight European countries. Opel employs around 34,500 people in Europe, with more than 16,500 in Germany. Opel and Vauxhall are present in over 50 countries. In 2014 Opel/Vauxhall sold 1.095 million passenger cars and light commercial vehicles worldwide

The Opel Group GmbH was established effective July 1, 2014 as a sister company of Adam Opel AG. This new company is responsible for Opel/Vauxhall as well as all GM operations in Europe. The Opel Group Management Board and Chairman Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann are also based in Rüsselsheim. The operative business of Adam Opel AG remains unaffected by this reorganization.

The Opel Group was acquired in 2017 by PSA Group

Opel has been building automobiles since 1899, and became an AG in 1929. In late 2005, the company was transformed into a GmbH (PLC). The company is headquartered in Rüsselsheim, Germany, and has been a wholly owned (100%) subsidiary of General Motors since 1929.

Opel/Vauxhall sold almost 1.1 million vehicles in 2014

In spite of the difficult economic environment, 2014 ended on a high note for Opel/Vauxhall with the company recording its best sales figures in recent years. With 1.076 million new car registrations in Europe last year we had an increase of some 35,000 cars or 3.4 percent. Opel thereby grew twice as much as the overall European market that only saw a growth of 1.7 percent. Opel’s share of the overall European vehicle market was up for the second year running reaching 5.75 percent. In 2014, Opel achieved its best sales figures and market share since 2011.
