The business at the core of Subaru Automobile Division.
Subaru history as an automaker began with the launch of the Subaru 360 in 1958. Since then Subaru have worked continually to provide new value in automobiles by developing new categories based on their core technologies, such as the horizontally-opposed engine and symmetrical all-wheel drive (AWD), and by creating new technological value, including EyeSight*, the world’s first driver assist system. These actions have deepened our ties with customers. In recent years, Subaru have positioned the U.S. as an important market, with a strategy of concentrating limited resources in fields in which we should extend our strengths and advantages, including product lineups focused on SUVs and sports models. Subaru provide Enjoyment and Peace of Mind through high value-added products. In addition, they are developing core technologies in areas such as battery electric and hybrid vehicles, while leveraging alliances to accelerate our initiatives toward achieving carbon neutrality.

History
THE ORIGIN OF SUBARU
“SUBARU” signifies a Japanese word meaning “unite,” as well as a term identifying a cluster of six stars, which the Greeks called the Pleiades – part of the Taurus constellation. According to Greek mythology, Atlas’ daughters turned into this group of stars. Adopted in March 1958, Subaru refers to a group of stars also known by its original Japanese name, mutsura-boshi, or series of six stars. This group of stars-known in Western countries as the Pleiades-belongs to the Taurus constellation and is the basis of the Subaru trademark. Subaru automobiles were the first to bear a name derived from the Japanese language.
In 1953, five Japanese companies merged to form Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. The new corporation adopted the “Subaru” cluster of stars as the official logo for its line of automobiles. Today, Fuji Heavy Industries embodies a global transportation conglomerate. Effective on July 15, 2003, the 50th anniversary of the company’s founding in 1953, FHI introduced the new 6-star corporate symbol and logo design for the Subaru automotive business, to project a new brand image in the future.
